Petition calling for an end to the Trump administration’s international student ban
As the number of coronavirus cases continues to surge in the United States, colleges and universities are figuring out how to safely hold classes in the fall. To protect the health of students, staff, and the communities where the schools are based, many schools have decided to host all classes online.
But on Monday, July 7, the Immigration Customs and Enforcement Agency (ICE) announced that international students attending U.S. colleges that will operate only online in the fall must leave the country.1
International students are speaking out against this ban by the Trump administration: “For a lot of international students like myself, returning home right now is a death sentence for many reasons, including the pandemic. Learning in the USA has been a refuge for so many of us,” said one student, adding, “I am scared. Scared that my life doesn’t matter. Scared of both the US government and my own government.”2
Will you sign the petition calling for an end to the Trump administration’s international student ban?
The American Council on Education called the new guidelines “horrifying,” warning that they will cause confusion as schools work to reopen safely.3 The guidelines require students to travel when it is unsafe to do so and do not acknowledge that some countries may be unsafe to return to, and they are impractical because schools and students have a variety of policies and needs, which may change over the course of the semester as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
The Trump administration’s decision to ban international students won’t affect just the international students, it will undermine school budgets, negatively impacting domestic students. An economic analysis by NAFSA: Association of International Educators found that international students contributed $41 billion and supported 458,290 jobs during the 2018-2019 academic year.4
We must call on Congress to reverse the Trump administration’s dangerous and xenophobic ban on international students.

Free Sticker: “We Mail Carriers.” – Moveon.org
Mail carriers are essential workers who are risking their lives to deliver letters, food, and medicine to over 135 million households during the coronavirus pandemic—but instead of supporting them, Donald Trump wants all of them to lose their jobs.
Trump has repeatedly refused to include desperately needed aid to the postal service in any relief bills, and he even threatened to veto the first stimulus bill and withhold money from American workers and small businesses if even a cent was directed to the postal service.
We won’t let them get away with it—which is why more than 365,000 MoveOn members have signed a petition to save the post office.
We need to show postal workers we stand with them—and publicly proclaim our commitment to save the post office. That’s why we’ve just printed a big batch of “We ❤ Mail Carriers” stickers and are giving them away for FREE while supplies last.
Trump’s reasoning is nothing short of vindictive: He hates the postal service because they deliver packages for Amazon, whose owner, Jeff Bezos, also owns The Washington Post, a newspaper that isn’t afraid to report the facts and challenge the Trump administration when necessary. And it’s long been part of the right-wing Republican agenda to privatize the USPS.
And so, Trump and his Republican loyalists want to bankrupt the postal service, cause nearly 600,000 workers—nearly 40% of whom are workers of color—to lose their jobs, rip reliable mail delivery from vast swaths of the country, and, as if all that wasn’t bad enough, ensure that there is no large scale vote-by-mail campaign this November.
Thanks for all you do.

P.S. We’ve also printed special envelopes to mail the stickers, so postal workers will know we are standing with them during these uncertain times. Take a look:

Petition: help stop Trump’s cut to rural schools
Dear Friends,
Rural kids deserve equal access to education, whether it’s K-12 or college. However, Donald Trump’s Education Department is cutting funds for some of the most rural schools in the country.
Rural school districts, which serve nearly one in seven public-school students, have long been considered the most underfunded and ignored in the country.
That’s why Congress created the Rural Education Achievement Program in 2002. It’s the only dedicated federal funding stream for rural school districts.
Rural schools rely on the program to supplement the costs of services that are far less accessible to rural students, like technology, mental health and guidance counselors, and full-day kindergarten.
However, Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos abruptly changed how school districts count the number of their students who live in poverty. As a result, more than 800 cash-strapped schools in some of the most geographically isolated communities in the United States stand to lose thousands of dollars.
This bureaucratic bookkeeping decision is either heartless or incompetent.

Thanks so much for your support!

Petition: investigate Roger Stone’s sentencing recommendation
After a lengthy investigation and trial involving the criminal activity of Trump’s longtime crony, Roger Stone, Trump has openly attempted to influence his sentencing by tweeting about how Stone has been treated “very unfairly.”
Following the public pressure from Trump to reduce the sentencing, the DOJ REDUCED the recommendation that prosecutors originally made to the court. A flagrant abuse of the justice system.
We cannot stand for it.
Add your name immediately to demand an investigation into Roger Stone’s sentencing recommendations!
Thank you,

Robert,
Following a lengthy investigation and conviction of President Trump’s right-hand man, Roger Stone, Trump publicly and vociferously criticized the sentencing recommendation made by career Department of Justice officials after which DOJ leaders withdrew their support for the recommendations and called for a more lenient sentence. This egregious breach of justice has caused EVERY one of the career prosecutors involved in the case to resign from their posts.
Now that Trump has gotten away with pressuring a foreign government into investigating his political rivals, he apparently thinks that the law doesn’t apply – to himself or any of his closest allies.
Well we’re not going to stand for it. The Department of Justice’s Inspector General should investigate this matter and we are calling on the House Judiciary Committee to demand answers from the Department of Justice as well. This politicization of the Justice Department that should remain independent of such influences undermines the rule of law and all Americans should be alarmed.
We must ensure that Trump and his allies are held accountable and remind them that NOBODY is above the law!
Thanks for all that you do,
— Zach, PFAW

You’ve already heard about Trump’s proposed budget cuts to our social safety net. But it gets worse….
This is another reason why we can’t let his budget become law.

Under Trump’s budget, there would be a 26 percent cut to the EPA. 26%!
50 EPA programs would be eliminated, and the research and development funding would be cut in half.
Say NO to cuts to the EPA and Environmental Programs. Demand Trump’s budget does not become law →

Petition: Investigate the Justice Department’s reversal on Roger Stone
The Department of Justice appears to be putting Donald Trump’s friends above the law.
Following a tweet from Trump, the Justice Department undid the work of career civil servants prosecuting Trump’s confidante, the convicted criminal Roger Stone, shortening the sentence they were seeking in his case. All four of the federal attorneys responsible for pursuing justice for Stone’s crimes have resigned in protest.1
The Justice Department’s internal watchdog must investigate the corrupt about-face made at the seeming behest of Donald Trump and call out cronyism within its own ranks. But given how compromised disgraced Attorney General William Barr is, we cannot trust the Justice Department to correct its course. The House Judiciary Committee, which has oversight of Barr, must also investigate independently.
Donald Trump has already shown that he thinks he’s above the law, and will act accordingly. But the Justice Department showing preferential treatment for Trump’s criminal accomplices is a threat to the country. This turn has come within a week of the Senate GOP refusing to hold Trump accountable for his impeachable offenses. If the Department of Justice’s Inspector General and the House Judiciary Committee don’t act now, Trump will be shown that he is free to bend the law to his whim.

End unlimited political spending on our Elections
Congress must expose dark money donors and end unlimited political spending on our elections.
SIGN THE PETITION
Without disclosing the sources of their funding, powerful groups have used dark money to pour $1 billion into federal elections since 2010.
Without transparency, voters don’t know who is trying to influence them or to whom a candidate is beholden. Without bold changes to our current laws, the problem will only grow worse. Congress must put an end to this now!
